Where to stay in Hong Kong

Where to stay in Hong Kong

The two main areas to stay in Hong Kong are Hong kong Island and Kowloon, which are naturally divided by Hong Kong Harbour.

Hong Kong island is more expensive and more modern in architecture than Kowloon and offers more in terms of western style nightlife. Kowloon is more traditionally Chinese, less expensive and has some great markets and street food.

If you are considering staying in Kowloon, Hong Kong Island is very accessible by MTR, which only takes a few minutes. If you are looking for value for money then Kowloon is the place for you. The most popular area of Kowloon is Tsim Sha Tsui and here you will find most of the hotels, shopping malls and museums.

If money is not an issue, then you will probably be more comfortable on Hong Kong Island, as this is where you will probably be doing most of your sightseeing and dining. See our hotel guide on where to stay on Hong Kong Island
